just wondering

some things in life that i've never understood:


why is it that on the beltway (highway, whatever you wanna call it), the speed limit is 55 mph. yet, there are 4 lanes, and they have designated the left lanes for "faster moving traffic" and the right lanes for "slower moving traffic". well, if by law, we're not supposed to exceed 55 mph, why are you magically allowed to drive faster in the left lanes, so much that these lanes are dedicated to people driving faster? BUT even though they have dedicated those lanes for faster moving vehicles, if a cop is hiding out over there, you can still get pulled over and get a ticket for speeding... i don't get it.

why is it that there are so many people who say they are vegetarians but they still eat poultry and fish. when did chicken and fish become vegetables? i'm not downing anyone's choice of diet - to each his own. but you have to call it what it is: if you eat the meat of a chicken or the meat of a fish, you are not a VEGetarian. poultry and marine animals are still flesh. i wouldn't call myself a Christian but say, "...but i don't believe in Jesus." again, not knocking anyone's diet...i'm not say you're wrong for eating fish or chicken. but if you're going to eat them, you can't really label yourself a vegetarian.

why is it that people (usually family, but friends too) who haven't kept in touch with you for years, haven't bothered to call, visit, write, email, or anything for years, get upset if they find out you're getting married and they didn't get an invitation to your wedding?

why is it that the U.S. government readily jumps at the aid of another country when some disaster strikes, and willingly spends millions of dollars aiding foreign countries in their times of battle, tsunamis, hurricanes, disease, etc., yet were mysteriously low on resources to help prevent the deaths of about 1600 people due to Hurricane Katrina, or to aid the people who were left homeless and devastated in the aftermath of the hurricane, right here in our own country? moreover, why is it that the U.S. government is always dishing out millions of dollars to aid and feed people in other countries, but i walk up and down the streets of DC every day and see homeless people starving and freezing on every corner?

why is it that people from other countries move to america with little or nothing, and are able to start businesses, get educations, and make wonderful and prosperous lives for themselves, yet there are people who have lived here with resources at their fingertips since birth, and still sit on their butts all day, content with mediocrity and non-achievement but always thinking someone owes them something?

why is it that people insist on getting married and then relentlessly cheat on their spouses, stay out all times of the night, don't come home, and don't take care of their children? wouldn't your life have been much simpler if you had just NOT gotten married and had kids? (not to mention the fact that you would have spared the pain to your spouse and children). if you had just remained single, you could have had all the freedom you wanted, without hurting or having to answer to anyone. DUH.

why is it that people who have a jacked up relationship and argue all the time, break up all the time, fight all the time, cry all the time, somehow decide that they are ready to get married? like marriage is going to make all those problems go away...

why is it that there are so many free clinics at our disposal who hand out free birth control and free condoms, yet there are so many women who continuously get pregnant "by accident" and have baby after baby after baby that they can't afford to take care of? come on now...if you have 6 kids by the time you're 23 years old, perhaps you may want to consider doing things a little differently.
