today (technically yesterday cuz it's after midnight) was so...interesting and eventful. so much happened that was so out of the ordinary, that i'm still feeling a strange sensation about all the events of the day.
it started early this morning at work. at about 9:30 am, my friend who works on the 10th floor comes to my suite and hands me a sealed envelope with my name on it. he just says, "here, this is for you...i'll talk to you later." and he left. i open the envelope, and inside are 2 twenty-dollar bills and a bank deposit slip with my name on it. i'm thoroughly confused, so i called his cell and he tells me that the money was for me to put towards my cell phone bill....
let me back up and explain that on wednesday, i got my cell bill and went into cardiac arrest because my bill was higher than it has been in a long long time. i apparently had been doing way way way too much text messaging and went way way way over my limit and now am having to pay way way way too much. so i sent an email to my friends that i communicate with regularly by text messaging saying that i was laying off the texting for awhile, so as to avoid any more insanely high bills. that was in no way a solicitation for donations, nor was i placing any blame on anyone but myself. it's my phone, it's my responsibility, and i should have been more careful. but my friend's way of helping me out, even though i didn't ask for it, nor did i want or expect any help, was to bring me some cash to put towards my bill. HOW SWEET!!!!!!!
so when i called him, he said that's happened to him before too, and even though he knows i didn't ask for help and didn't need it, he wanted to do that for me. of course, i argued with him for about 20 mins because i really didn't want him giving me $$. even though my bill is high, i am perfectly able to pay it (i'll just be a little broke for a few days, but that's not unusual for me anyway). i told him he better come take it back or i was going to bring it up to his office. but he insisted that i keep it, so eventually i stopped fighting him and gave in. it was the sweetest, most generous gesture someone has done for me in a long while! and he totally did NOT have to do that..it wasn't even his bill!
out of the ordinary event number 2:
our coffee machine broke so the coffee company guy came out to replace it. as he was waiting for his partner (who took forever to come!!) to bring up the new machine, he stood at my desk talking to me. at one point, i suggested he call the other guy and find out what the hold up was. but his company cell phone battery was just about dead, so i said he could use my desk phone. he asked me for a piece of paper and a pencil because he needed to retrieve some phone numbers from inside the company cell. and as he was writing down the numbers, i went back to my work and listening to damian marley. i wasn't really paying attention to the fact that he was writing for a long time. after awhile, he hands me two pieces of paper from the notepad i had given him. one page was a poem he had written for me as he was standing there, the other page was a short letter/note to me. (i'm thinking, "dude, weren't you supposed to be calling 'Carlos' so we can get this machine replaced...?" there's no time for literature...people are waiting for their coffee!)
all i will say is that in this "poem," the brotha actually wrote that i had an "orgasmic structure"....
in the "letter," he wrote that he was "infactuated" [sic] with my personality....
so...i really didn't know how to respond after i read those...all i could say was "thank you..." and smile.
oh yeah, by the way, i should mention that this is the guy who said he was formerly incarcerated for attempted murder...
so this is what has become of my life. attempted murderers who can't spell are now writing me poetry about my "orgasmic" body, whatever the heck that means, and my "infactuating" personality.
i guess i should be grateful that someone, who only sees me periodically when we order coffee or need our machine fixed, thinks so highly of me enough to write me a "poem" and thinks i'm such a great catch. but really, Lord, does he have to be an ex-attempted murderer? and does the "poem" have to reference my "structure"?? is every guy's mind in the sexual gutter?? what ever happened to simple, sweet, innocent compliments, that don't involve the word "orgasmic" ?
last event of the day: a conniving coworker ONCE AGAIN publicly, in a room with about 5 other people, including myself, took credit for work that I did...she actually, literally, loudly, right in front of everyone, said SHE did it, when i was the one who did. that's the second time she's done that to me (could have been more, but that's only the second time i've witnessed it). this time, unlike the last time, i called her out on her lie, and made it clear that it was my work she was taking credit for. and she got pissed off and left the room.
my intention was not to upset her, but i was so proud that i spoke up for myself for once. i'm so tired of being people's doormat. most of the time, people at that job take advantage of me ridiculously. this chick takes credit for my hard work on more than one occasion, this other chick accused me of being "too nice" to her boyfriend on the phone (that's a whole other story, i'll post that some other time), people ask me to do flunky tasks that are SO not a part of my job and then get upset when i question why i'm being asked to do it (like take some visiting client's torn trench coat to the cleaners!! - a consultant actually asked me to do that once, and got a straight up attitude when i said no. unbelievable. i am not paid to be someone's personal assistant/errand girl and take some random guy's coat for repairs...are you crazy!)
but once again, i digress.
that event did NOT take place today, but the random cash gift, the poetic stylings of an ex almost-killer, and the hilarious unraveling of a big fat liar's lie DID all happen all in this one day... i won't even mention the disgusting email conversation that i witnessed between my father and stepmom...UGH!
and now i shall go to sleep :-)
