how come a "nickname" is called a "NICKname"?

who's nick?

i like nicknames on people. unless they're just stupid or vulgar.

but a lot of nicknames are cute. it's very endearing to assign someone a nickname you've created just for them. and it's so sweet when it catches on and then everyone else starts calling that person the new name.

i'm just rambling because i'm bored and i don't really have much to do at the moment.
