it smells good. looks....meh....ok, i guess.
every commercial makes it seem so heartwarming, comforting on a cold winter's morning, just the thing you need to start your day off right, as the smiling actors shovel in steamy spoonfuls of the stuff.
all cinnamony and what-not.
it's been years since i've had it. i remembered i hated it the first time i ever tried it as a child. but i thought, 'well, many years have passed and many foods i once detested i have grown to love in my adulthood. maybe i'll like it now...'
wrong. oh so wrong. i'm trying to force down each disgusting spoonful, and i feel like i'm going to vomit with every bite. but i'll be darned if i throw this bowlful away - my money didn't grow on a tree. so disgusting or not, this oatmeal is getting eaten. it's probably going to take me 3 hours to eat this bowl, but hey...
ugh.
you know what i think it is? it's the texture. it's not uniform. on one hand you have the solid oat-ness. then you have all that interstitial fluid in between the big old oats. pretty gross.
what's interesting though is that i CAN tolerate, and on a good day even enjoy, oat bran. oat bran is the hull of the oat, not the whole oat. and it's ground rather finely, not like the big oats in oatmeal. you cook hot oat bran the same way you'd cook oatmeal, it's just much better tasting to me. it has a ton of fiber and other nutritional goodness to boot.
i should have just stuck with what i knew. but noooooo, i had to be all fancy and try something different. now i'm stuck with this bag of oatmeal at home that i'm going to frown at every time i open the cabinet doors.
you better believe it's gonna get eaten though. my hard-earned money was spent on those oats, so love 'em or hate 'em, down the hatch they go, dry heaves and all.
i just hope they stay down.

oatmeal is deceitful
