last night was full of entertainment.
first, as i sat in my apartment watching reruns of A Different World, i realized how much i love being an adult. yeah, it comes with stresses, bills, heartaches, responsibilities and worries that i didn't have as a child. but nothing beats that freedom to do what i want, when i want, and how i want. i live alone, i have no one to take care of but myself, 2 kitties and 2 budgies (and those kids are enough of a handful right now, believe me). i don't have anyone tugging on my hem asking for stuff, needing things (well, again, except for the animals who literally scream at me when i don't feed them). but pretty much, i go where i please, i do what i please, i don't do what i don't please, and i don't have too many people to answer to (other than the basics -the law, my boss, etc.). life is great right now.
for instance, last night i got home kinda late and was in no mood to cook a thing, nor was i particularly in a mood to eat a real dinner. so my dinner consisted of a small individual bag of veggie crisps, a roll, a handful of Teddy Grahams straight out of the box, and half a ginger ale left over from when i was sick the other day. and i was perfectly contented. you get those privileges when you're a grownup. when i was 11, i couldn't get away with that kind of stuff. plus, if i had the responsibilities of a family right now, i couldn't feed that stuff to kids - you know, they need real food, vegetables and minerals and stuff. sometimes i long and pray for marriage and kids. but other times, i really enjoy the perks of being single and taking care of only me. it's quite a selfish lifestyle, and i enjoy that right now.
to add to my interesting evening, when i got home, i noticed a number on my caller ID that i didn't immediately recognize, but that i had seen a few days ago also. this time, whoever it was left a message, and when i checked the message, lo and behold.... it was the Ex Factor. how interesting. i haven't talked to him in i don't even know how long. i blame this all on you all. y'all got me up in here writing blogs and mentioning him, and that stirred up something in the universe. now he's calling me again, lol.
the message was quite...interesting. i love how he tries to fish for information, even when leaving messages ("i hope you're doing well....i'm sure you are...give me a call when you can....but i know you must have a boyfriend or something...so i hope you can call me back...i think about you all the time..."). HA. ok. MAN!! why can't i be engaged or something just so that i could have the pleasure of telling him!! (now, now Dragonfly...that's not very nice now, is it...?) whatever. plus i love how he mildly chastised me in the message for not ever calling him, saying he's always the one to reach out to me. i'd love to tell him that there's a reason for that, and that the reason is that i don't have a whole heck of a lot to say to him, nor do i particularly enjoy reminiscing on our volatile relationship. but alas, i don't have the guts.
what's funny is that i know his estilo so well. i haven't heard from him in a very long time - i suspect there was a lady in his midst. that's usually when he's MIA for long periods of time. but when they break up or he starts feeling lonely, he calls me. i don't doubt that that is the case now. i'm so glad he lives a good 8 hours away.
what's also funny is that i'm still talking about this. moving along...
so to cap off my interesting evening, i had the distinct pleasure of listening to the audio-only version of a low-budget skin flick, as i was forced to endure the varied sounds of my upstairs neighbors...um...ferociously enjoying each other's company. for a good half hour.
i didn't know whether to throw up or be really happy for them.
i love my life! :-D
