a joke i made in the previous post prompted me to give a gentle word of encouragement to folks who spend their lives loathing and seething at stereotypes:
i like stereotypes because they are usually ridiculous and funny (and i love to laugh all day, every day). i do not take them seriously, nor am i ever offended by them. so it is not uncommon to hear me joke about Black (i am Black, to clarify) stereotypes or those given to other races/ethnicities. i don't take offense because i know who i am and what i do.
people who get bent out of shape because of stereotypical or racist remarks from the "less-enlightened" really should just chill - if you know that despite what the stereotype says you do not stink, you don't drink malt liquor and eat a lot of fried chicken, you're not a bad driver, you are not a terrorist, you do not get drunk on tequila and beat your women, you are not good at math, you are not on welfare, you are not lazy and freeloading, you are not an illegal immigrant, you are not a knife-wielding thief, or you are not a gun-toting gang banger, then relax! people are always going to have misconceptions and ignorant mentalities - let it go. they've been doing it since biblical times and nothing much as changed.
having forums, yelling and screaming, and spending countless hours trying to prove that you are educated and clean and not inferior is a waste of time. people who are racist or intent on believing in and upholding stereotypes are not going to change just because you go out of your way to show them they are wrong. just be the best you that you can be and let the ignorant be ignorant. trust, after all these years, the truth is out there for them to learn it without your getting bent out of shape and having to prove yourself worthy. if they choose to hold on to the lies and ignorant mind states, let them be. and as for you, if you know you are giving your life your all, then just....live.
Christ defines me - not politics, not racists, not my degree, not celebrities, not my past, not my family, not my friends, not my job, not my blog, not my title, not my salary.
just Christ. and Christ alone.
