i love how God affords me opportunities to witness to this guy at work who's a self-described "deist" - meaning, he believes in a 'god-like' being who is out there somewhere, but similar to agnostics, he doesn't believe this 'god' has any influence or concern over our lives. he told me he used to be atheist, then agnostic, now deist. he's confused clearly, BUT at least he's progressing, lol. he went from not believing in any "god" at all, to believing in the existence of some kind of "god." my prayer is that the next step will be that he'll come to not only believe in but know THE God.
anyway, this guy and i have had numerous dialogs about the Lord, salvation, the Church, etc. but his heart is hard towards any notion of having a relationship with God. so i pray for him all the time, because i'm convinced sometimes that God brought this man here just for me to witness to. and i'm convinced that one day every seed that God has used me to sow into this man's stony heart will one day be fertilized with His light and truth and he will get saved.
anyway, despite his anti-God attitude, he's a decent-hearted dude who's cool to converse with, even though he always laughs off any word of godly wisdom i try give to him, lol. but yet he always says things (through God's sovereignty yet unrecognized by him) that lead me to respond with a word from God.
case in point, in a discussion today about how our healthcare/benefits package has changed and is now way more costly (ARRGGGGH!), he made a comment about illness and dying and jokingly said something to the effect that he is working on coming up with a way to "live forever and not die." i didn't quite get it at first, so i asked, "what do you mean? you're going to concoct some elixir that will keep you from dying?" and he said, "yeah...there has to be a way that i can figure out how to not die" and my reply was, "THERE IS!! it's called 'salvation' - Jesus said that He can give you everlasting life!" LOL
he laughed and covered his ears and starting chanting "lalalalalalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaa" like a child. it was funny.
what's funnier is how i never intentionally seek out opportunities to share the Gospel with him. God opens those doors each and every time - it's awesome to watch it unfold at random, unexpected moments. and it happens a lot with me and this guy. we'll be having an everyday conversation about whatever and the topic always shifts to something spiritual. it's all God. and it's all good.
it's also cool that he isn't afraid to have conversations with me and we have a pretty cool working relationship. a lot of people, especially in work settings, hear you say the word "Christian" or "Jesus" and they run for their lives, lol. i think God paved the way for this guy and i to be comfortable talking with each other just so that i can share the Word with him. :-)
my Lord makes me laugh. i keep telling this guy that even after i'm long gone from this job, that i know i will find out one day that he's a minister somewhere, lol. what an awesome testimony that would be. wouldn't that be funny!
